Our day started bright and early as we ventured to Orange Room Studios for our first session with Jason - Song Writing and Musical Composition. Jason explained the concept of song structure and discussed the "modern" song construct. He got the team to analyse a current hit to further identify the song structure to assist them in their creation. After throwing ideas around the room, the team decided how their song would be formed.
In that same session, Jason proved to be one for surprises - - - here is a clip of Jason putting Jahroy on the spot with an impromptu lyrical verse:
The students also met Mr. John Beal - Jazz pianist, producer and owner of Orange Room Studio. He provided insight into the process of recording, studio etiquette, and more. Below is a clip of team entering the studio for the first time (note Chinyere's reaction - lol):
After a quick lunch break, the student had a visitor show up - - ASCAP Songwriter/Producer Marqueze Ethridge. "Queze" wrote arguably TLC's biggest hit, "Wateralls", which went on to win a Grammy. He has worked with numerous well known artists and producers including Outkast, Ludacris, Xscape and Cee Lo Green among others. He shared some insight to our students as they began the process of writing:
After that inspiration, the team got to work on creating their masterpiece:
They worked into the late hours - the day finished at a wonderful 12:30 am! The day starts tomorrow with an early 9:00 am exit for conditioning. Stay tuned for Day #2!!
